Highlights from the 2010-2011 School Year
Kudos to.....
...Kendra Blazi and Kelly Conway won the Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce's Crystal Apple award. Four teachers in southeast Volusia won and two were from New Smyrna Beach High School. We are very proud of you Kendra and Kelly.
...Kyle Harrelson for winning a state title in weightlifting.
...the three winners in each discipline at the recent Annual Senior Art Gallery; Tori Conrey (Photography); Logan Kipp (Sculpture & Ceramics); Dani Wallace (Two Dimensional work) and Megan Tully (Dance). Each of these students have been awarded a $100 scholarship to help fund their future studies.
...the winner of the State Olympiad Competion. Kyle Ewing and Olivia Quinn 6th place for Write It, Do It; Nevada Gellerman and Alex Dulock 4th place for Chemistry; Kayla Peludat and Jaclyn Losciavo 16th place Anatomy and Physiology.
...FFA for placing 6th at the 2011 State Aquaculture Career Development Event (CDE). Fifteen (15) teams from throughout Florida gathered to compete for the state championship. Way to go, FFA!
...HOSA State Leadership Conference competitors! The Medical Reserve Corps team took First Place in the state! Congratulations to the team of Tyler Lee, Alex Dewey, Lyssa Bergeron, Cooper Engler, Danielle Vandenberg and Jaclyn Burkard. For the third year in a row, NSBHS HOSA is a Florida Outstanding HOSA Chapter thanks to the documentation of Natasha Lopes. NSBHS HOSA also received a gold award for National HOSA Week. Our two Medical Reading teams placed 4th and 5th in the state! 4th Place: Katie Ragusa, Ashlee Hodson, and Leigh Raymond; 5th Place: Brittany Lanahan, Chelsea Lamie, and Chloe Caban.
...to Nevada Gellermann (11th grade) for his selection to participate in the Embry Riddle Engineering Summer program.
...the Showdolls who 1st Place in Pom, Kick and Jazz categories. They also won Grand National Champion in Open Dance and were also selected as one of the top three performing teams at the competition.
...the Barracuda Jazz Ensemble on receiving a Superior Ratings at their State Music Performance Assessment at Freedom High School in Orlando! Congratulations to Megan Meeks, Lanie Ogram, Dalton Cornwall, and Krystie Blohm for receiving Superior Ratings in their solo performances at the same event.
...the following students for placing in the state-level 2010-2011 Reflections Program: Mallory Kuykendall, 11th Grade, and Brandon Richmond, 11th Grade. Thank you students, sponsors and PTSA for representing our school in such a fabulous way.
...the following student entries have been selected by the Volusia County Sister Cities Association for an award in the Young Artists Showcase annual event: Best in Show (will be forwarded to Sister Cities International for their annual competition) - Samantha Belyan; First Place, William Clark; Second Place, Nicolas Claridge;
Third Place, Angelina Halcomb; and Honorable Mention, Ashleigh Devine.
...the following students their selection to show their art at the 2011 Florida State High School All State Art Exposition: Autumn Plebanek (won a scholarship), Hannah Bauer, Chloe Caban, Emilee Cope, Courtney Elliott, Fabian Fioto, Alexis Harris, Ashley Kimsey, Syndey McNamee, Grant Meiring, Danielle Peters, Janine Phillips, Desiree Stone, Andrew Seymour, Amanda Titus, and Nicolas Vanderzyl.
...the Culinary Team who earned the following awards at the Holiday Charity Ball competing against local chefs: Dessert- 1st Place; Booth Display- 2nd Place
...the following students for placing in the county-level 2010-2011 Reflections Program: Stephanie Hall, 11th Grade, 1st Place in Literature; Alexis Wright, 10th Grade, 1st Place in Photography; Mallory Kuykendall, 11th Grade, 2nd Place in Photography; Brandon Richmond, 11th Grade, 3rd Place in Photography; and Patricia Weber, 10th Grade, 1st Place Visual Arts. Thank you students, sponsors and PTSA for representing our school in such a fabulous way.
...the Culinary Art students for a great showing at the county fair. They received 18 1st Places, 35 2nd Places, 7 3rd Places, 1 Honorable Mention and 1 Fairgoers Choice Award. The gingerbread exhibits left the fair and went to the Hilton in Daytona for display.
...Josh Phillips, Charlie Nighswonger and Jordan Motley who were selected to attend Florida State University's Tri-State Music Festival. These students will spend the first weekend of December studying under collegiate professors and internationally known conductors with other students from all over the southeast.
...Lanie Ogram, Ian Jones, Diquan Simon, Coral Kirk and Danny Woronoff who were selected to attend the University of South Florida's Festival of the Winds. These students will spend the first weekend of December studying under collegiate professors and internationally known conductors with other students from all over the southeast.
...the Drama Club for coming 1st in the state for the TOTS-EAT Food Drive. They placed 15th in the nation. The students collected almost 3,000 pounds of food. Way to go, thespians and Ms. Blazi.
...the art students for their outstanding showing at the Halifax Art Festival: Katie Combs for "Zip-it"; Chloe Caban for "A Greener Me"; Hayley Yauch for "Color My World"; Gabriella Schloss for "Medusa"; Fabian Fioto for "Rockabilly Baby"; and Sonchelle Mackie for "Sissy".
