Construction
The purpose of the Building Trades & Construction Design Technology program is to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the building construction industry. The content includes but is not limited to applying construction techniques; reading plans and specifications; and developing trade skills in carpentry, masonry, electricity, plumbing and air conditioning. This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare students for careers in the Architecture and Construction career cluster. The program also provides opportunities for technical skill proficiency, and applied learning that contributes to problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills.
Students learn skills and safety practices related to construction including the ability to identify, use, and maintain tools of the trade. The program covers topics from materials and hardware to blueprints and building documents. The purpose of the program is to the develop competencies needed to be successful in the building, construction, and repair industry. Business partners offer job shadowing and internships to the students in this program.
