I am so excited to officially join the Barracuda Family! I’m a Volusia native with a Bachelor’s in Digital Art from Stetson University, a Master’s in School Counseling from Walden University, and an American School Counselor Association Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Specialist. I am passionate about ensuring all students have a pathway to success. Outside of school, I can often be found listening to K-Pop or playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends.
Freshman - Class of 2027
Mr. Joseph Mercier
I was born and raised in beautiful New Hampshire and graduated from New England College, a small liberal arts school with my Bachelor of Science. I moved to Florida in 2000 to work with students who were at risk of getting in trouble with the law. I married the love of my life in 2005 and we had our first son in (2006 then in 2007) we were blessed with our second son. I finished my education certificate while working with this program and in 2012 I took a job with Daytona State College as a STEM community scholars coordinator but unfortunately this was only funded for 2 years. My first job with Volusia County school was at Deltona High School where I worked with students who had behavioral concerns while I finished my counseling degree. Once I finished my counseling degree, I was hired at Deland Middle School where I worked as a counselor in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade for the past 9 years. I am an avid runner and have run quite a few marathons and half marathons as well as several 5K. I just finished my first iron man in Chattanooga Tennessee (swim 1.5 miles, bike 52 miles and run 13.1 miles). I liked it so much my next goal in the coming years will be to complete a full Iron man double the half. I am also an experienced Hiker and have hiked 680 miles of the Appalachian Trail a 2300-mile trail that runs from Springer Mountain Georgia to Mt. Katahdin in Main. I am very excited to be joining the team at New Smyrna Beach High School. College and career readiness have always been a passion of mine and I look forward to helping students being the best productive citizen they can be.
