All three students are true heroes!

Cuda Act of Kindness - March, 2019

New Smyrna Beach resident, Mary Kay Hague called to inform that two of our students assisted her last month at the WaWa on Rt. 44

Ms. Hague was pumping gas and lost control of the gas hose and it sprayed her.

Cole Combas and Isaac Sykes came to her rescue by gaining control of the hose and then going into the store to get water and towels for her to clean-up.

What a great random act of kindness!

Way to go Cudas!

Barracuda Band Earns 82 Medals at the Florida Bandmaster' Association District 6 Solo and Ensemble Festival

February, 2019 - The Barracuda Band participated in the Florida Bandmaster’s Association District 6 Solo and Ensemble festival last Saturday. District 6 covers both Volusia and Seminole counties. We are proud to announce that our amazing musicians and color guard members earned a whopping 74 superior and 8 excellent medals, bringing our medal count to a total of 82. We were one of the only bands to have a medal count that was higher that the number of students enrolled in the band program!!

We are very fortunate to have great assistant music teachers here at NSBHS; without them these scores would not be possible. Mr. Antonios Molfetas directed the brass ensemble and they earned a superior. Mrs. Victoria Molfetas directed the woodwind ensemble and they earned a superior. Mr. Daniel Lunde directed two large percussion ensembles and both groups earned a superior. Ms. Krystie Blohm and her state recognized color guard earned superiors for their performances. The color guard also competed at the FFCC (Florida Federation of Color guards Circuit) and won first place in their class beating out 13 other color guards from across the state.

42 outstanding barracuda band and color guard members will be representing our school at the state level in mid-March, giving up a portion of their spring break in order to compete. Thank you to every student who took the time to prepare for this prestigious event and represent our school, and thank you to all of our parents, teachers, and administrators for your continued support of our award winning music program and for understanding that our performing arts programs are an integral part of the overall school curriculum here at NSBHS.

Student's setting a great example!

Principal Krajewski received this email on Aug. 23, 2018 from a NSB citizen:

Good afternoon,

I just ran into some of your students eating lunch and wanted to inform you that they were so polite and offered to help with my order since I was with my small niece. We sat near them so she kept trying to interact with them and they all were so friendly, even at 2 years old, my niece noticed when they left and said "bye nice boys!"

Just thought you would like to know all the students representing your school today at Chic-fil-a were a great example.

NSBH Art Students Recognized at the Northeast Florida Scholastic Art Awards

NSBH art students won several awards at this year’s NEFSAA. The Scholastic website (artandwriting.org) describes their program:

Each year, increasing numbers of teens participate in the program, and become a part of our community—young artists and writers, filmmakers and photographers, poets and sculptors, video game artists and science fiction writers, along with countless educators who support and encourage the creative process.”

“Students across America submitted nearly 350,000 original works this year in 29 different categories of art and writing.”

“Through the Scholastic Awards, teens in grades 7–12 from public, private, or home schools can apply in 29 categories of art and writing for their chance to earn scholarships and have their works exhibited and published.”

Unity Day Cudas Unite!

October 25, 2017 - Unity Day at NSBHS was a day to acknowledge and support all the important causes that take place in the month of October:

Anti-Bullying, Breast Cancer Awareness, Disability Awareness, Autism Awareness, Down's Syndrome Awareness and Mix it Up at Lunch.

Students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to write a message of kindness and inspiration on a strip of colored paper of their choice. Each color represented a different cause. The strips of paper were then linked together to form a chain. A symbol of our unity, respect and support for all of these worthy causes. NSBHS students also wore red on this day to show their support!
